What is a Snoodie?

Snoodie is a modern, practical approach to keeping a woman’s head warm and dry, while creating an elegant, fashion profile. Made in a variety of luxe fabrics for every occasion and every style, Snoodie is not a scarf and not a hood yet does what they do without the bulk and inconvenience.

Why does a woman need a Snoodie?

Since the beginning of time, women have been covering their heads for protection from cold, wind, rain and snow, for religious and political reasons, for modesty and mystery.

Modern women have the same needs and desires but have often opted out of covering their heads, suffering the elements, sinus infections, headaches, and windblown, unruly hair to avoid the even more unpleasant “HAT HAIR.” Snoodie solves this problem and hat hair can remain a thing of the past.

Are you kidding?

If you follow the wearing instructions and learn how to put Snoodie on and take Snoodie off  properly, you will not have hat hair, flyaway static electricity hair, and your hair will look great despite the weather.

Please refer to our wearing instructions to make sure you know the proper way to wear your SNOODIE.

What do you do with a Snoodie when you don’t need it?

That’s the great thing about Snoodie – it is lightweight and folds easily to fit into a purse or pocket so if inclement weather strikes you can always be prepared. You never know when you will need some protection so women often keep one in a briefcase or glove compartment. Our travel wool model, for example, is made of a polished, light weight wool that even repels water and resists wrinkling. Also, if you go indoors, you can put Snoodie in the cowl position around your neck where it becomes an elegant scarf until you are ready to go back outside.

Where did Snoodie come from?

Snoodie was designed by Dr. Shelley Reciniello, New York psychologist and business consultant, out of necessity to protect and control her long hair. “Over twenty years ago, when I was starting out consulting to Wall Street companies, “ Dr. Reciniello explains, “I would arrive at a company from rushing all over New York City and be ushered into a boardroom filled almost exclusively with men in those days. Without a hat, my hair would be unruly and unkempt and with a hat it was flat and dented. I wanted those guys to listen to what I had to say and not be distracted by wisps of static hair or a helmet head. So the idea for Snoodie was born and perfected and I had them made for me by  a dressmaker.”

And now Snoodies are available for everyone?

In 2005, Dr. Reciniello got together with  former business partner and longtime friend, Jodie Collins, who is also in the psychological consulting business and began manufacturing Snoodies in New York City with imported luxury fabrics.  Snoodie debuted at the Javits Center Accessories Show in August 2005 and Snoodies are now being sold in boutiques and catalogs.  “But to make sure that Snoodies are available to everyone, Collins adds, “ we are maintaining our own retail site. We also want to make sure that women everywhere have access to the original Snoodie that has the exact qualities that create drape and style while keeping heads hat hair free.”

What is your favorite thing people have said about Snoodie?

Collins: “It’s so Jackie O.” “It’s an old idea but it looks so modern!” “It is the new pashmina.”

Reciniello:  “I guess it is something I said once in an interview that Snoodie is the ultimate unifier because it is for every woman, anywhere that wants to cover her head for any reason. I like that business women, stay –at- home Moms, old women, young women, Hasidic women, Arabic women are all wearing Snoodies.  In this crazy, world that remains so divided by so many things, it is always nice to find our common ground. Maybe Snoodie can be a new symbol for unity, for peace even.” (click here to return)
